Here is a list of colleges and universities within the 32 counties of Ireland, many of which hold large quantities of important historical records useful to genealogists and those in search of Ireland's past.
Currently, the Archives of the College are divided into two fully catalogued collections notably: the Papers of the President’s Office and the College Archives.
Courses in genealogy and a range of other disciplines are provided.
The College of Arms is the official repository of the coats of arms and pedigrees of English, Welsh, Northern Irish and Commonwealth families and their descendants. Its records also include official copies of the records of Ulster King of Arms the originals of which remain in Dublin. The officers of the College, known as heralds, specialize in genealogical and heraldic work for their respective clients.
Coláistà Chorca Dhuibhne Teo has been in existence in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh, West Kerry, for almost forty years. It is a subsidiary of Comharchumann Forbartha Chorca Dhuibhne the West Kerry Development Co-operative which was established in 1966.

St. Fergal's College, is a modern co-educational school with 340 pupils and 34 teachers maintained by County Laois Vocational Education Committee.
The Royal Irish Academy, the academy for the sciences and humanities for the whole of Ireland will vigorously promote excellence in scholarship, recognise achievements in learning, direct research programmes and undertake its own research projects, particularly in areas relating to Ireland and its heritage.
The programme builds on a long-established tradition of Women's Studies at NUIG.
The Irish Ancestry Research Centre (IARC) is a leading provider of research, education and training in History of Family and Irish ancestry. The centre also provides digitisation services for local and national repositories with a particular focus on genealogical sources. It is based on the campus of the University of Limerick.

One scheme put forward by the Liberal administration in 1866 proposed to grant a supplemental charter to the Queen’s University, empowering it to examine and confer degrees on students other than those of the Queen’s colleges. A bill on these lines was introduced and carried by a narrow majority.
