The Society was established in 1990 to promote the study of genealogy and related subjects as educational leisure pursuits available to all in the community irrespective of age, prior-learning, background or socio-economic circumstances.
The IGRS was established in 1936 in London to encourage and promote the study of Irish genealogy and to collect books and manuscripts of genealogical value. Membership is open to all who have an interest in Irish genealogy.
On Monday February 3, 1992 at 7:00 pm in the Shorewood Wisconsin Library Community Center eighty-seven people gathered for the first meeting of the Irish Genealogical Society of Wisconsin. The steering committee was more that pleased that their work had met with such a positive response in the Wisconsin Irish community.

The Irish American Archives Society (IAAS) was founded in 1994 to support the collection and preservation of archival materials that document the history of the Irish American experience in northeast Ohio. The primary goal of the IAAS has been to raise funds to build and maintain an Irish American Archives at the Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS), the area's largest repository of materials for ethnic studies. A second goal of IAAS has been to support the development of exhibitions, books and other publications that draw on local collections to tell the stories of Irish immigrants.

Desmond Guinness and his late wife Mariga and since that time many buildings of significant architectural merit have been saved through their work and the work of members and supporters. The County Tipperary Historical Society, founded in 1987, is a society dedicated to recording and disseminating the history, heritage and folklore of County Tipperary, a Munster county steeped in history. Dr. Martin Mansergh, at the launch of the 1996 Tipperary Historical Journal, reflected "Tipperary presents a rich historical patch-work. It is a part of Ireland that has played a very prominent part throughout our history. In some centuries it has been the epicentre of wars and troubles. In 1848, 1867 and 1919 it was the heart of the revolution.

The Society of Architectural Historians was founded in 1940 to advance knowledge and understanding of the history of architecture, design, landscape, and urbanism worldwide. Prof. Kevin B. Nowlan, vice-President of the IGS, and Dr. Edward McParland together announced at a ceremony in the Irish Architectural Archive that Russborough, Co. Wicklow was the winner of the Irish Georgian Society’s 2011 Architectural Conservation Award. Intended to promote greater appreciation of Ireland’s built heritage and the conservation work of its architects, the award was accepted on behalf of the Alfred Beit Foundation, owners of Ireland’s finest Palladian house, by Conseulo O’Connor and by architect James Howley.

The Yeats Society was founded in Sligo in 1958 in order to commemorate and honour the memory of W.B. Yeats, and to promote appreciation of his poetry and other writings, and an awareness of the other members of this talented family.
Over the last fifty years there have been many changes to the railway system on both sides of the border: nationalisation of the systems north and south; elimination of steam traction; passenger and freight rolling stock modernisation; complete change in the method of freight operating; the loss of traditional traffics and the gaining of new ones; reduction in route milage through line closures; modernisation of signalling systems; completion of the first stage of the electrification of the Dublin suburban network etc.

The Honourable Society of the Irish Brigade was formed in 1994, on the 300th anniversary of the death of its founder, Justin MacCarthy, The Viscount Mountcashel (first Duke of Clancarthy). A society to commemorate the lives and achievements of the Irish Soldier in Foreign Service was created. At this time organisations existed which commemorated the Irish contribution to specific conflicts such as the American Civil War, The Irish Regiments of the British Army and such, but no organisation existed that spanned all ages and all units in which the Irish had served. Colonel James Shortt, The Baron of Castleshort, commander of the Royal Galloglas Guard, was tasked with forming the Society as its first Convenor-General.
Castlemagner parish is at the eastern end of the Barony of Duhallow in North Cork. It includes the village of Castlemagner and the north east quarter of Kanturk town. A thousand years of careful farming has enriched the naturally fertile soil, with the result that, in all its 7880 acres, there is no wasteland. The troubled history of the Irish nation has ebbed and flowed over its green fields since time immemorial. It was an old and settled place when the Magnels from Pembrokeshire made their way along the Blackwater valley and sank their roots deep into Castlemagner soil to shape the life of the parish for more than 450 years.
